Developing a Class With Jamie Bollenbach, MFA May 2023
An invigorating, intellectually and emotionally engaging art instructor with a wide variety of experience with students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, I work for both the substance of art skill development and the reaches of artistic philosophy, and I make it both challenging and fascinating to people in all kinds of fields from professional art to complete beginners. My classes show students how to observe both the real and imagined worlds with risk and tenderness of expression, to get comfortable with the limitless nature of our experienced lives, and to learn to express what is valuable and translatable about that new understanding. When you really learn how to see, and how to explore what you’ve come to know, you can make art that holds another person’s whole attention and make their world that much larger.
The next classes will be announced here, on my email lists, and on my social media outlets.

Using fun & challenging in-class studio assignments, this 4 session, all media course will teach artists effective practices for color design applicable to many types of artworks.
Color used well sets your heart on fire.
It is a language, a music of visual life, that works like tones, chords, and melodies. Designers and artists work with the visual grammar shared by human beings around the world, beginning with the ancient pigments 40,000 years ago, chalk, charcoal, red and yellow ochre, artists have used color to represent the world as it is seen and as a powerful form of symbolic expression
Our emotional, intellectual and spiritual associations with different colors, and with the artistic use of colors, can profoundly move us and change our emotional state.
With a foundation in the natural world and in the way the eye perceives color, the principles apply to everything from traditional painting to computer graphics to industrial design to culinary presentation, and will give students a good working knowledge of how to employ color effectively.
